Situation
- Identify all the characteristics of the situation/project
- Describe what brought the group together
- Differentiate fact from fiction
- Define the problem
- Write a problem statement
Options
- List possible options
- Build on previous suggestions
- Encourage unusual suggestions
- No judging allowed
Disadvantages & Advantages
- Identify pitfalls/benefits of possible suggestions
- Assess based on organizational goals/standards of quality
- Assess how each option makes maximum use of resources
- Explore how each option will affect other members/constituencies/programs
- Examine and reexamine unstated assumptions
Solution
- Assure each member knows responsibilities, timelines, and roles of others
- Build understanding of the role of each member in delivering for the team
- Follow the plan
- Assess for desired outcomes
- Document the process providing a roadmap for future like issues/activities
- Determine the impact of the action/outcomes on future planning and resource needs
